Olay: Aluminum Jar / SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING DESIGN

 

ALUMINUM JAR (LAUNCHED MARCH 2021)

Packaging design for Olay’s first fully-recyclable aluminum jar, including a red base to match its current on-shelf counterpart, an unpainted embossed lid to highlight the back-to-basics recyclability of the material, and a custom direct-to-consumer shipment box that outlines Olay’s 2030 sustainability goals. With great passion for Olay’s responsible beauty initiatives, I set and influenced design direction from initial conceptualization to final execution of both the primary (jar) and secondary (direct mailer carton).

Results: The initial launch, which featured our iconic #1 seller, Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, defied expectations with great success. This prompted a second year roll-out expansion of four additional SKUs in 2022: Retinol, Collagen Peptide, Vitamin C, and twin packs. While this initiative was intended as a limited-edition launch, the product is still sold by retailers (i.e., Target, Walmart) as of 2024.
